Briefly about the breed
Ragdoll is best known for its peaceful nature, and is a big, heavy cat with fur that does not filter out so easily like the Persians. Ragdoll is born all white and slowly develops color and pattern in the course of two years, so they are cloaking. The breed shows little enthusiasm for hunting, which makes it popular in Australia, where cats have threatened wild animals. Reports of high pain threshold has been debunked.
In the 1960′s breeder Ann Baker in California bred the first ragdoll cats from a white longhair, probably without a pedigree, and a Birma-typed male. Baker formed an association for the Ragdoll breed, but the cats were not recognized by other registries. Some breeders later crossed her ragdolls and got the breed that is recognized by the major indices today. Ragdoll got full CFA approval in 2000.
